Point of sale for Kenyan retailers

The till your shop can trust.

Debian POS runs the counter, M-Pesa, stock and staff. It keeps selling when the internet drops, checks every M-Pesa payment with Safaricom, and shows you what really happened today.

No card needed. Prices in shillings. Data kept in Africa.

The Debian POS till: products to tap or scan on the left, the cart and its total on the right.

Why shops switch

Three things you can stop worrying about.

Fake M-Pesa messages, a dead connection at the busiest hour, and money that leaks between the till and the bank.

M-Pesa you never have to check

Send the prompt to the customer's phone, or pick their payment from the till's list the moment it arrives. A code typed by hand stays unverified until Safaricom confirms it, so a fake M-Pesa message gets nowhere.

A till that keeps selling offline

When the connection drops, the till carries on: it rings up sales, prints receipts and sends each one exactly once when the line is back. No lost sales, no double counts.

Controls that close the leaks

Shifts with a blind cash-up, a manager's PIN for voids, refunds and large discounts, and an audit log of who changed what, and when.

Everything in one place

The whole shop, not just the counter.

From the batch on the shelf to the profit at month end, every part of running a shop works from the same stock and the same customers.

  • Stock in batches

Buying prices and expiry dates per batch, first to expire sold first, counts and losses.

  • Barcodes and labels

Scan with a scanner or a phone's camera, print shelf labels, sell weighed items by their scale label.

  • Customers and loyalty

Points, tiers and referrals, with SMS campaigns sent only to customers who agreed.

  • Quotes and pre-orders

Quote in seconds, turn a quote into a sale, and take deposits on goods you order in.

  • Imports and landed cost

Follow a shipment from the supplier to the shelf and know what each item really cost.

  • Reports that answer questions

Daily sales, profit by product, stock that is not selling and what to reorder next.

  • Receipts your way

80 or 58 mm rolls, a link by SMS, in English or Kiswahili.

  • Branches and staff

Registers per branch, permissions per role, sales targets and commission.

  • Expenses

Receipts attached, and approval for anything above your limit.

Built in a real shop

Proven at Bike Yard, Nairobi.

Debian POS grew out of Bike Yard's own back office: its till, stock, loyalty and reports, used every trading day. Every screen is tried in a working shop before it reaches yours.
